Wall Painting in Tibet
Book Title

Wall Painting in Tibet
History - Technique - Survivals - Environment

Description

Released in summer 2023, this new book is an important contribution to the canon celebrating and studying traditional Tibetan Culture. The subject of the monograph is Wall Painting, however the book is not attempting to simply reproduce Tibetan murals but is an examination of how the murals were and still are made in Tibet. It contains the very first scientific analysis of methodologies including materials, detailed descriptions of the production and application of the traditionally produced paint, as well as many illustrations and descriptions of the best preserved examples of existing murals in Tibet. The cave paintings in Western Tibet have never before been recorded in Western literature.

The book is generously illustrated with more than 400 new, specially commissioned, high-quality, detailed, colour photographs taken by Roberto Fortuna, photographer for the Danish National Museum, which reveal never-before-seen details. Complementing the photographic reproductions are texts by Tibetan practitioners as well as Western Tibetologists, among whom is Professor David Jackson, known for his book on the technique of Tibetan Thankas as well as his books on Tibetan murals published by Rubin Museum of Art in New York.
